DC Metro Icebreaker Gather no-shows

From: Arielle K. Masters (arielle@imstumped.com) | Date: 2004-01-24 11:31:17 UTC-05:00
Didn't have a good night last night - little one kept waking us up, so
we woke up around when the Icebreaker started. With that on top of
already being embarassed about the paucity of my stamps (no more than
the two or so I had back in November) and about still not having carved
a personal stamp, I don't think we'll drive to Arlington today.
Extremely unlikely, anyway. Sorry, guys. I know you agreed on today
partly because I didn't think I could make it next weekend :-< Hope to
see you in the spring. Maybe by then I'll have a respectable amount to
share and will have gotten some sleep.

So sorry you couldn't make it. Obviously this date was very good for
people since thirty people came, including one from Washington state
who would not have come another date.

Never be embarassed about your stamps. We all started with simply
carved stamps, and that only after using a commercial one for a
while. There were several people there who said they were new and
some with commercial stamps for their personal stamp. One in
particular of which I thought was really cool.

Hope to see you on the trail or otherwise. There is always the
possiblity of smaller impromptu get togethers.

Sorry you didn't make it. There were over 30 boxers even
when I arrived at 2 PM. What fun it was to put faces with
the names and stamps! Thanks to the Doubtful Guests for
putting us together. And thanks to those who made the
event stamps! I had a wonderful time and it looked like
everyone else did too.

Boy were we relieved to read this! Ever since finding our first box last weekend (thank you Team Kelly!) and reading all of the emails we have been stressing about the importance of the stamps. While my son is a gifted artist and drew some phenominal artwork the carving has been a pain and the erasers are just too darn small. We are dying to plant boxes and have some great box ideas based on our other hobbies (caving, bats, hiking, dogs, guitars and the Grateful Dead) but have been stressing about the stamps. This email helps us relax and just enjoy the hobby, and not focus excessively on stamp carving. We ordered some materials on line and will do our best but we'll probably use lot's of commercial stamps. Hope everyone enjoys them anyway. Can't wait to start planting boxes and posting clues,

Don't stress! This is supposed to be *FUN*!

I used a store-bought stamp in one of my boxes. I mentioned it in the
clues. That way, if it's really an issue for someone, they don't have to hunt
that box. (Which would be a shame, because the hike is really nice!

I was a no show as well. T'he hubby decided that the lure of fresh powder meant that
the family was going skiing. Had a lot of fun at that, but I would have really liked to
meet folks at the gather. I've seen a lot of your stamps!

Hopefully I'll be at the next one.
Howls,

Well I admit you can't go skiing in the spring and summer and fall
but you can go to gathers. Hope to see you at the next one and out
on the trail. I'll have to carry my silver stamp pad with me.
We'll be looking for your stamps.
